We enjoyed the rental which is great with a few quirks. There is an amazing, gently sloping, huge private beach just across the private road which is almost totally deserted. The kids loved the great waves for boogie boarding. There is a very large house next door which does not show up on the aerial photos. However, much of the surrounding area is a wildlife reserve, which makes the whole location more quiet and serene. There are walks and trails around. The house is about equidistant from Wells and Kennebunk, with supermarkets, etc. in those towns.
Part of the main floor of the house has been set up as an apartment with its own living room, dining table, queen bedroom and ensuite bath with shower, and fully equipped kitchen, except the fridge is just a small drinks fridge. The reminder of the main floor has another fully equipped kitchen, large dining room (table for 10) and large living room with a small table seating 4 for eating. The space was all very well maintained and comfortable. The kitchens allow for lots of cooking, storage, and counter space and there is a large supply of dishware, silverware, food prep items, cookware, knives, spices, etc. There are two coffee makers, several toasters, and a microwave. There are two washers and dryers.
The upstairs has 7 bedrooms, 3 with queen beds, (no king), 1 double and 3 with twins. There are 4 hallway bathrooms for all those rooms, but only 2 have showers, and those bathrooms do not have mirrors. The remaining bathrooms have tubs. There is an outside shower.
There is no AC, but we found that it cools down in the evening. Some of the bedrooms have fans. One day was rainy and cool and we built a fire in the fireplace which was nice.
There is a small deck in the front of the house with a small table and 4 chairs, a small bench and 2 adirondack chairs. We brought more chairs so we could enjoy the space.
There are 10 low beach chairs. There are plenty of beach towels and regular towels.
We would recommend this home for a wonderful week in Maine.
My family & I’s 4th summer in a row at Beth’s home. We look forward to it all summer and are always sad to leave. House is perfect for big group, beach is perfection. See you next year!
My family has been coming to southern Maine for years. We loved the place and the location is as good as it gets. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a large house with easy access to a great beach.
I searched for 3 months for a property on a beach with enough space for my siblings and their kids to celebrate our youthful mother's 80th birthday for several days surrounding Memorial weekend. I hit the jackpot when I found this property. Our mother frequently took us to Jones Beach in Long Island when we were young, infecting us with a love for the therapeutic ocean. In spite of a very wet Memorial weekend, the property worked magic on our family. It was enhanced by learning some of its 200 year old history from the owners and caretaker. I never rented a house before this. Beth and her mother, Gail, could not have been nicer nor kinder. It felt more like we were staying at a friend's house than renting from a stranger. Each of the 8 BRs were very comfortable. They were made up with lovely bedding and linens. 5 of them faced the ocean, while the other three faced the wildlife refuge. We gathered in both of the great sitting rooms, the dining room and the two back to back kitchens. I have never seen such an array of entertainment options - perfect for the wet weather (Hulu, Tubie, Roku- things I was not familiar with). This property was magnificent. It was perfect for a wide range of ages (11, 16, 3x18, 41, 42, 59, 60, 61, 80) to spend time together, yet have space to retreat to. We could listen to the ocean from our rooms at night, see the star filled sky which was clear a couple of nights, walk on the lovely beach, head over to Kennebunk for provisions easily...and run out to Walker Point and the closer beaches. The memorable times my family "made there" exceeded by far all expectations I had for this trip. A thousand thanks to Gail and Beth for such hospitality.
