My mom, sister, kids, and I had a wonderful time at our vacation rental. It was the perfect location to drive to the beach and close enough of everything. I was even able to jog down the peaceful street. My mom absolutely loved the house. She went on and on about how it has been her favorite rental to stay in. It was clean and so comfortable. We would definitely stay again.
We stayed here during a getaway that involved both children and a older relative. Let me just say, the house was perfect. It's comfortable and clean, hosts were gracious and made sure we knew what we needed for the stay, and there is even a Hardy boys book that one of my children delved into and greatly enjoyed. The house is in a secluded area that is also extremely accessible to Wilmington, Fort Fisher, etc. Beds are comfortable, plenty of cooking items in the kitchen, and so fun to sit outside in the morning and drink coffee, watching the wildlife.
I've stayed in a lot of nice vacation rentals in many countries over the last couple of decades, so I've learned a lot about selecting the right ones for me. Rhonda and Allen's cottage is one of my favorite picks of all time. I always regretted choosing stylish villas where everything looked so new, perfect and pristine in photos, only to get there and find the furnishings were too new or decorative to be comfortable. At those kind of rentals, I usually spent too much time worrying that I might spill something on all the blindingly-white fabric. Thankfully, this cottage was Rhonda's family home for a long time, not an investment property. She and Allen understood the importance of keeping the house as a comfortable retreat for visiting families while honoring her own family's history in the decor. She kept the natural charm of the place intact and Allen fixed up the necessities. The result is the perfect, unfussy, unpretentious place where you can relax and be yourself while escaping the outside pressures of your normal life. I found the rocking chair on covered porch in the back to be the most peaceful spot. As it's on the second floor, it feels a little like a special tree house. From my elevated perch, I happily watched the deer and birds visit the yard from the nearby woods. After I extended my stay, Rhonda and Allen kept the bird feeder stocked, so lots of happy cardinals and chickadees chirped throughout my sojourn. As a whole, the house felt like a cross between a traditional NC beach house and a cozy, well-appointed cabin hidden in the woods of our beloved Appalachian mountains. Staying in the rental reminded me of visiting my favorite grandparents as a kid and feeling like the house itself had welcomed me back for summer. It even felt a little like the house might miss me when I left. I certainly miss it!
I also miss Rhonda and Allen. They are kind, considerate, compassionate and responsive hosts who want help you enjoy your stay. They respect your privacy, but are personable and interesting conversationalists if you wish to take the time to get to know each other in friendly conversations.
Last, but not least, I'll mention that this wonderful place has HUGE mugs, deep soup bowls and handheld shower heads. Genius! These are much more luxurious than the stupid, white sofas with hard cushions that other hosts think renters want.
My husbands and I travel quite often, this would have to be at the top of our list. It was perfect all around, location, spacious, clean, updated appliances, and the people are very generous. We were able to go drive our Jeep on the beach, take a minute walk to gorgeous private beach, and also some enjoy so quiet time to ourselves at the house. Also very close to any stores!!! I could not have gotten a better place to stay. Will definitely be coming back next time we go to Carolina beach.
It was me, husband, and 3 children. It was the perfect space for us! A nice, quiet location, only minutes from the beach. The house was beautifully decorated with a beachy theme. Very tastefully done. There were several books, board games, puzzles, and coloring books. It was kindly stocked with necessities for our arrival. Didn’t need to rush right out for anything, immediately. There was a cute guest book, where checkout instructions were, as well as several places in the area worth visiting/eating at. It was followed with notes from previous guests. We were honored to add to it. The host was beyond accommodating and kind. The kind that, these days, is very rare. I highly recommend this place!! You will not regret it! My family was in love with it. It fit all of our needs perfectly. The front and back decks were both great for relaxing, The back porch is more secluded, and faces the woods, so it was a lovely place to enjoy a cup of coffee and the beautiful wildlife. This will be the only place we use when visiting Carolina Beach! Can't imagine going anywhere else. The place had us sold, but the hosts were the most perfect icing on the cake. It was like family, the kind you might not see a lot, but still have a familial feeling. We truly felt like we were home, away from home. We're usually ready to go home by the end, but we were so sad for the end, this time. Can't wait to return!! 4 * accuracy only due to beds being fulls (which we were fine with, just informing).
