  • Could be a great place to stay but...

    2/5

The problem appears to be that the owner is not keeping up with care and maintenance. From what I can see on the calendar it appears this cottage is seldom rented. Therefore between renters it has time to become musty, dusty and not adequately maintained. When we arrived it looked like it had not been cleaned adequately since last occupied. Kitchen counters were dirty and needed to be cleaned as did some of the kitchenware and utensils. There was only ONE bath towel and one hand towel in the bathroom, and no others were in any storage cabinets or closets. In the corners near the front door and kitchen sink there were piles of what appeared to be insect remains. The tile floors needed sweeping. The bathroom sink needed cleaning. The freezer had spilled food that we needed to clean up. There we no potholders in the kitchen. The disposal under the sink was leaking (not badly but enough to make the bottom of the cabinet wet). The smoke detector was beeping when we arrived. There were a number of piles of dog excrement near the front door and driveway which we cleaned up.While we were here it got quite warm but when we turned on the air conditioner it did not work. This was already noted by previous renter. It would have been very nice to have the AC and it was listed as one of the amenities. The good news is that when we contacted Amanda she came right over with her daughter and they helped us get everything straightened out.

    Manager's Response:

From the Owner: 'Thank you for sharing your concerns. I'd like to clarify a few points and let you know the steps we're taking to address them.

Amanda, our cleaner, confirmed that she cleaned the property the day before your arrival. However, due to strong winds and recent rainy weather, it’s possible that dust or debris made its way inside. Amanda noticed some black particles on the floor and wasn’t sure of the cause, but we’ll continue investigating to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Amanda also mentioned that the only issues communicated to her during your stay were the towels (which she acknowledges were overlooked), the Wi-Fi (which was later resolved once the password was found), and the smoke detector (which simply needed new batteries). We understand these things can impact a stay and regret any inconvenience they may have caused.

    As for the other items:

Air conditioner and garbage disposal: These have already been reported to our maintenance technician. However, due to ongoing flooding in the area, repairs are currently delayed. We’re doing our best to get them resolved as soon as possible.

Freezer: This was an oversight, and we’ll ensure it’s addressed moving forward.

Potholders: It appears they may have been removed or misplaced; we’ll replace them right away.

Outdoor cleanliness: Regarding the dog waste you mentioned, we do not allow pets on the property. Since the casita is located on 12 acres in the countryside, this was likely left by a wild animal. The property is regularly maintained, but being in a rural area, occasional wildlife activity is unfortunately unavoidable.

We truly appreciate your feedback and are actively working to improve the experience for future guests."

  • Do NOT recommend

    1/5

Cabin had not been cleaned, smelled dank, AC didn't work, had dead bugs everywhere, cobwebs everywhere, and I got stung by a hornet nest located on the frontdoor light.

Host did minimally attempt to remedy situation but honestly this place should not be listed.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Emilio, we take it seriously when guests let us know that we missed the mark, and after sending your feedback to the homeowner, they’d like to share the following:

    - The hornet nest near the front door was an unfortunate result of being in a rural area, and our Guest Contact immediately addressed it once notified. These nests can appear quickly, especially after recent wildfires in the area, which disrupted local wildlife
    - Regarding the A/C, Amanda checked the unit and confirmed that it was functioning properly. Given that outdoor temperatures were around 60 degrees or lower, the system wouldn’t have activated under those conditions
    - The dead bugs you saw were likely due to a pre-arrival spray to prevent live insects. While we understand seeing them isn’t ideal, it’s part of pest control efforts in rural environments
    - Amanda visited the property multiple times and wasn’t informed of any concerns related to cleanliness or odors. The property had been vacant for some time due to recent fires, which may have contributed to the smell

Thanks for your valuable feedback as we continue to improve for future guests!
